BST Conference: "Beyond Our Walls"
Saturday, November 1, 2008
Mark your calendars and expect to experience a great conference in
San Antonio at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel. We have a fantastic
room rate of $95 per night! Plan to attend pre and post conference
workshops beginning Thursday, October 30, and running through Sunday,
November 2. After attending thought-provoking workshops on a variety of
topics, take the river taxi with friends down to the middle of all the
Riverwalk excitement for shopping, dining and sight-seeing. Mingle and
meet new faces Saturday night at Casa Rio for a scrumptious dinner and
festive social.
The conference is slightly later this year for 3 reasons: (1) The
date is 8 weeks following ISNR's conference allowing members to attend
both; (2) This particular weekend gave us the lowest room rate possible;
(3) The weather will be cooler and more enjoyable on the Riverwalk.
I would love to hear your requests regarding workshops, conference
topics and speakers. Continue checking the website for Early Bird
Specials!
-- Natalie Thomas, 2008 Conference Program Chair
In Memory of Margaret Ayers
Written by Sara Hunt Harper, PhD
Margaret Ayers, an internationally known and respected inventor,
researcher, clinician, teacher and mentor passed away March 12, 2008 two
days before her 62nd birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Dr. Ayers maintained a clinical EEG biofeedback practice in Beverly
Hills, CA for over 25 years. She was known for the development of
Neuropathways, the only real time brain wave training equipment. Her
work with Traumatic Brain Injuries including coma was known world wide.
Margaret, aka "The Wizard of Ayers" was loved for her sense of humor,
her infectious laugh, her story telling ability, her compassion as well
as her ability to read a raw real time EEG primary data tracing like
most people read a book.
She was a true healer. Her gift to many was happiness and hope as she
transformed lives from pain and suffering to wholeness of body and
spirit.
She leaves behind a legacy of a community of therapists to carry on
her work. She requested that the clinical and training side of
Neuropathways be led by Dr. Penny Montgomery and the technical aspect be
headed by Michael Wolf. With that in mind the annual Margaret Ayers
Neuropathways International Conference will be held as usual in the late
summer of 2008.
The Margaret Ayers Research Fund has been established. The family
requests that donations be made to the fund in lieu of flowers.
Contributions may be sent to the Margaret Ayers Research Fund at 427
North Cannon Drive Suite 105, Beverly Hills, CA90210.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28 at 2:20 p.m. at
the Old North Church on the grounds of Forest Hill Memorial Park, 6300
Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90066.
Message from the President
Make the trip to www.bstx.org to get a look at the El
Tropicana Hotel in San Antonio where our 2008 BST will be held in
November. See
Natalie's article to see what she is planning for us. This is going to
be one of the best meetings ever.
We still have openings for one more board member. If you are
interested, contact any other board member or me. We still have openings
for program members and chairpersons. Get active; support your
organization with your time and effort. We can be a stronger
organization together.
I am enclosing a website link:
www.thoughttechnology.com/thewall3.htm. I am a distributor for Thought
Technology and Dr. Folen uses Thought Technology equipment. This is not intended as an
endorsement of the company or the equipment. It is about the very
interesting work being done by the Army with Telemedicine that is both
scary and exciting. I have always been of the opinion that biofeedback
should only be done with a qualified biofeedback therapist in the room
with the patient. I have been slow to embrace the use of home trainers.
You can read the article and decide for yourself. This is what is
happening.
On behalf of the board of BST, I would like to personally thank the
latest "Gold Star" members for upholding their commitment to BST by
paying their 2008 dues: Linda Dicindio, MA, Thomas Hanlon, LPC, Victoria
Harrison, MA, Janine Marek, LPC, Darlene Pitts, LPC. If your name
is not on the list, please send your 2008 dues to Mardie
as quickly as possible. This board will be working hard to reach the
goals set for this year, but it is going to take the membership as a
whole working together to really become successful.
