President’s Message
From Randy Neblett
This is a reminder that the 2006 Biofeedback Society of
Texas conference will be Friday September 29 to Sunday October 1. Two
3-hour workshops are planned for Friday from Liz Stroebel, PhD and the
comedy ethics team. Our general meeting will be on Saturday with a variety
of interesting speakers, and Steve Baskin will provide a 4-hour workshop
on Sunday. You can be in and out in less than 48 hours with 15 hours of
CEU’s tucked into your belt!
We have had some problems over the past several years with
our registration planning. Because there has been no incentive to register
early, almost all registrations have been last-minute. For instance, last
year we had only 18 confirmed registrations 5 days before the conference!
This situation has created panic and gray hair within the board and
especially among conference committee members. In an attempt to prevent
stress-related disorders from developing, we will try a new approach this
year. Those of you who are willing to register 6 weeks early will get $40
off the full price of registration! If you register 2 weeks early, you’ll
get $20 off. I hope that this is enough incentive to get everyone to
commit early. If the money is not enough of an incentive, then consider
the possibility that years could be added to the lives of our board and
conference committee members by reducing their stress levels this year.
Finally, membership directories will be available
within the next week! This has been a much more arduous process than any
of us who have been involved could have imagined. I want to thank Helen
Alexander, our current membership committee chair, and Mardie Barnard, our
new administrative assistant, for their dedication to this project. The
board has agreed on a new format for the directory to allow easy
distribution and easy updating so that we don’t have to wait another 5
years to get a new directory. The directory is in a simple Word format
that can be emailed to you directly (or snail-mailed if you prefer). You
can simply leave this document on your computer for easy reference, or you
can print it out, punch holes, and stick it into a 3-ring binder. If you
don’t like the format you can easily change it with Word editing features.
Your directory will be emailed to you as an attachment as soon as it is
ready (or snail mailed if you request). Contact Mardie if you have any
difficulty receiving or opening the directory. Her email and phone number
are at the bottom of this page.
I hope that you are having a prosperous and productive
year, and I’ll look forward to seeing you in Fort Worth! I am always
available at randyneblett@comcast.net.

Hotel Name Change
Be advised that the name of the hotel has changed from The
Radisson Plaza Fort Worth to The Hilton Fort Worth. It is the same building, but with a
different name. The following excerpt is from the Hilton’s
website:
Registered as a national historic
landmark, the Hilton Fort Worth hotel has welcomed many famous and
important guests. None would prove to be more significant than President
John F. Kennedy and the First Lady, Jacqueline. Using the hotel as a
backdrop, the young President addressed the thousands who had gathered to
catch a glimpse of America's most popular political figure. His final
speech came minutes later in the hotel’s Crystal Ballroom where 2,000
attendees joined the President and First Lady for breakfast. In only a
few short hours the Hilton Fort Worth hotel in Texas would go down in
history as the place where President John F. Kennedy spent his last
night. "There are no faint hearts in Fort Worth'' - President John F.
Kennedy, November 22, 1963.
I have been told that the hotel has undergone a 50 million
dollar renovation this year. I’ve confident that our conference
participants will be pleased with the meeting rooms and sleeping
accommodations.
